The San Francisco Opera Productions:

Roberto Devereux by Gaetano Donizetti
Queen Elizabeth’s rule over her nation is ironclad but a secret passion threatens to consume her.At court, the Earl of Essex faces whispers of treason amidst rumours about his relationship with the Queen. She must decide whether to sign his death warrant in an impossible choice between love and country.Donizetti’s romantic masterpiece stars the inimitable soprano Sondra Radvanosvsky in one of her signature roles as Elizabeth and Jamie Barton as her friend and rival, the Duchess of Nottingham.“This absolutely thrilling production of Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux puts the ‘grand’ back into grand opera” (Toronto Star).

Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci by Pietro Mascagni and Ruggero Leoncavallo
For the first time in 15 years, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci return in a gripping double feature seething with the raw passion, jealousy and heartbreak that can only result from a scandalous, small-town affair.Set in the colourful heart of the Italian Quarter in Buenos Aires, José Cura’s production deftly intertwines the two beloved stories, offering a powerful reflection on life, love and death.Lianna Haroutounian, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Roberto Aronica and Marco Berti lead this powerhouse cast.

The San Francisco Symphony:
Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Pianist Yuja Wang and Appalachian Spring
Hear Yuja Wang, “quite simply the most dazzling, uncannily gifted pianist in the concert world today” (San Francisco Chronicle), play Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand – a piece flavoured by Harlem jazz. Then experience a different thread in the American tapestry when Michael Tilson Thomas leads the San Francisco Symphony in Copland’s complete ballet Appalachian Spring, an iconic score that captures the pioneering spirit of American optimism.
